Meet The Author: Tom Cheesewright

17th February 2020

Tom Cheesewright is the Applied Futurist, helping people and organisations around the world to see the future more clearly, share their vision, and respond with innovation. Tom will help you and your audience to connect tomorrow’s world to today’s experience, and make sense of what’s happening next, and why.

Tom’s clients include global 500 corporations, government departments, industry bodies and charities. Using a unique set of tools that he developed, and now teaches and licenses to others, Tom finds the critical intersections between today’s macro trends and the existing stresses in each client’s organisation and sector. These are the points at which the greatest change will take place.

Tom is a frequent presence in the media, his face, voice, and unusual name recognisable from weekly appearances on TV and radio including BBC Breakfast, Channel 4’s Sunday Brunch, 5live, Radio 4, and TalkRadio, and in The Guardian, The Times, and The Evening Standard.

Tom’s first book, High Frequency Change, was published in 2019
by LID Publishing and has been shortlisted for the Business Book Awards 2020 in the ‘Leadership for the Future’ category.

Tom’s next book, Future-Proof Your Business, will be published by Penguin in Summer 2020.

When futurism became my full time job seven years ago, I put up a website announcing my services to the world. To my surprise and delight, the phone started ringing almost straight away. The companies calling were global brands. Why were they calling a chap in Manchester for help? This question is what ultimately led to me writing High Frequency Change. It is an attempt to explain the sense that so many of us have that change happens faster now than in the past – a sense shared by the leaders of global corporations who feel strongly that their operating environment is not what it was. But it is also an attempt to balance the hype about accelerated change with the clear reality that lots of things haven’t changed much at all.

High Frequency Change is divided into three parts. The first explains the concept of high frequency change – why some things change at an accelerated rate, giving us this feeling of confusion and discomfort, and why some things don’t – yet. The second part explains how companies and organisations are responding to this challenge, based on my work with them over the last seven years. The third part is a guide for individuals, wondering what this world of high frequency change means for their careers and their kids.

High Frequency Change has turbocharged my business. It has increased the number of enquiries I get about speaking, writing, broadcasting and consulting each week. And it has opened some incredible doors, to some of the largest and most famous brands in the world. It has also shown me that I can write a book that people will read. I’m not stopping with this one!
