Roddy is a publisher and consultant with more than two decades of experience shaping influential ideas for global leadership, governance, and transformation audiences. His career started out, following an MBA in Madrid, as a consultant editor at Kogan Page, and has led to his running his own publishing business that works closely with senior faculty and executives at leading global business schools, consultants and large organizations.
Roddy has been the publisher and editorial director of Developing Leaders Quarterly, the leading practitioner journal focused on leadership development and practice since it started over 15 years ago. He has worked closely with academics, CEOs, and thought leaders to capture and translate their research, experiences and thinking so it is accessible, and of value to a wide professional and executive audience.
As the founder of Ideas for Leaders, Roddy has been instrumental in creating a space – both digitally and in print – that helps bridge the academic-practice gap. Ideas for Leaders curates and translates the best management research into practical insights for practitioners worldwide. This archive of work bridges the gap between scholarship and real world application, championing clarity, rigour, and originality in business writing. Roddy is known for his ability to interrogate ideas, explore arguments, and help authors articulate their distinctive contribution to the field – all with a low-key, friendly approach.
Beyond publishing, Roddy has also created the Scottish Leadership Institute, a not-for-profit body that promotes, advocates and convenes on human-centred leadership to increase the impact and effectiveness of good leadership for Scottish organizations.
Roddy brings a career-long appreciation for well crafted business books that combine intellectual substance with good story-telling and so readability. He values works that challenge assumptions, offer fresh context and perspectives, and that are concise.
