Jos Burton began his career forty years ago working in the industry with Scottish & Newcastle gaining valuable management experience across a wide range of disciplines and functions.  During this time he gained responsibility for training and development and qualified as a lecturer in Adult Education.

Jos then took a career move with the Hays Group.  Here he worked his way up to a senior leadership role delivering training and coaching at all levels from front-line operations to senior executives. Jos specialised in management and leadership training supporting personal and professional development across a range of industry sectors within the Group.

For the last ten years, Jos has run his own business as a training consultant and executive coach.  He has designed and delivered a range of training courses for both the public sector and commercial organisations. Jos has gained valuable experience in the roll-out of extensive training programmes across global corporate organisations as well as bespoke specialist courses tailored for individual businesses with niche requirements.

About ten years after leaving school Jos happened upon one of his old teachers walking in a park one spring evening. The teacher recognised his former student and greeted him, saying ‘Hi Jos, is the world making good use of you?’

The question surprised Jos at the time and has stuck with him ever since. It has informed his thinking at numerous stages in his development: choosing new roles, changing jobs, starting new projects. So, when if he was going to write a book what would it be about, he instantly knew the answer – Be Useful: Is The World Making Good Use Of You?

Be Useful is Jos’s first book; it is a collection of ideas, models and insights that he has found useful in thirty years working with people in Learning & Development across a wide range of organisations and diverse cultures.
