I am Hayley Dunn, the author of The School Business Manager’s Handbook and I am thrilled that my book has been shortlisted in the 2019 Business Book Awards. I believe in the well-known phrase “not all readers are leaders, but all leaders are readers” and I wrote the book that I wish I had had when I started my first role working in a school as a business manager.

I am the school business leadership specialist for the Association of School and College Leaders (ASCL). I am an ACCA qualified accountant and a Fellow of the Institute of School Business Leadership (ISBL). Since moving into the public sector 10 years ago, I have worked for a local authority education finance team, a large maintained school in an area of high deprivation and a multi-academy trust.

I write and present on leadership in education, with a passion for being innovative with practice, efficient in utilising resources and supporting the development of others. In 2017, I was awarded an ISBL, Chief Executive Award for Exceptional Contribution to the Development of the SBM Profession for ‘driving practitioner engagement through effective thought leadership’.

My book brings together guidance, advice and tips from school business leaders across the sector. It covers key areas of school business management including business leadership, HR, professional development, finance, marketing, time management and demonstrating impact. The ‘View from an expert’ sections, are written by fellow practitioners in the sector and provide interesting insight in to their experiences. It is a useful resource for anyone with an interest in the education sector.

The School Business Manager’s Handbook, published in partnership with ASCL and John Catt Publishers, has been shortlisted in the Specialist Book category of the 2019 Business Book Awards. The book is available to buy in paper back and kindle formats.
