Glory – the Magic Formula for Winning More Business Awards
After a 15-year career in PR during which Louise Turner wrote a clutch of winning award entries for her work and her team, Louise set up her own business in 2011. A throw-away comment from her former boss was the inspiration for offering awards writing as a service alongside other communications and marketing activities. Ten years on, Louise spends around half of her working time helping organisations and individuals win awards through her company, Awards Writers.
Glory – the Magic Formula for Winning More Business Awards fulfils Louise’s ambition to make her awards skills accessible to everyone, regardless of budget.
Passionate about awards as a vehicle for demonstrating the value that small businesses add to the economy, both in terms of ingenuity, but also the jobs they create, Louise knew that small and micro businesses would be unlikely to have the budgets (or the time!) to attend a training course or pay for Awards Writers’ services.
And with budgets and time at a premium for in-house communications and marketing teams too, Louise recognised they would be a second key audience for the book.
Glory is more than a book; it’s a toolkit. It’s a deliberately short read so people can quickly get the information they need to decide whether to spend time and energy on writing an award entry. It covers the whole process, from identifying the story you want to tell, to finding the right awards and category, to the components of a successful award entry. Glory contains literally everything people need to confidently tell their story in an award entry in a way that’s likely to have a strong impact on the judges.
And the book is already delivering on Louise’s vision, with one reader leaving a review crediting the book’s part in their award win: “Before reading (Glory), I wrote the odd couple of nominations for agency clients without much success or clue of how to approach this. Recently, I submitted a nomination for one of the schools I now work with. I kept reading this alongside working on the submission. Not only did I feel inspired and confident about the process, but we won!”
Glory climbed to number two in its category shortly after release, being beaten to the top spot by marketing guru Seth Godin (which Louise thinks isn’t anything to be ashamed about!)
Speaking about the book, Louise said: “It was a labour of love to drag every ounce of knowledge on the topic of awards out of my head and get it down on paper. But it’s really delivering on what I wanted for the book – helping people to feel more confident in entering awards, and being more successful with their entries.
“Writing Glory wasn’t about creating my own fame. I just wanted to pass on my expertise to people who would never pay for our award-writing services because I believe in the power of awards so fervently.”
