Your Second Phase: Reclaiming work and relationships during and after Menopause

Hi, I’m Kate.

I am an experienced Coach and Change strategist with a specialism in Menopause and Gender Equality. I work with women and organisations to raise awareness and create simple strategies, to enable modern supportive Menopause conversations for Menopausal women, their partners and those they work with.

Why did you write the book?

I wrote Your Second Phase because no one seemed to be talking about the impact of Menopause on our relationship with ourselves, those we love, and importantly the myriad of micro relationships we have at work. There seemed to be an assumption that if only we could manage our symptoms everything else would be ok. Bur Menopause is so much more than symptom management.

What value does the book offer?

Firstly, it speaks to every woman, partner and colleague, like the intelligent adult they are. It takes women through easy to follow steps, to take control and focus on what is important in their lives. There are also sections written specifically for partners and managers, that opens the opportunity to create empathetic conversations and nurture relationships, from both sides of the desk or table.

The last year has seen the pressure on women increase, with an expectation to pick up the majority of childcare, home schooling and caring duties, whilst fighting to maintain their careers and aspirations. Add to this the complexity of Menopause and the outcome can be devastating. This book steps into the maelstrom to offer you options, solutions and a path to regain that much needed control.

Menopause is complicated for lots of reasons. It is one of the last taboos that inveigles its way into women’s and men’s subconscious, affecting how women view themselves and how they are viewed by others. This book offers all of us a way to step outside of these stereotypes and drive a different way to view this phase of every woman’s life.

What’s happened since you published the book?

The book has been an incredible rollercoaster of emotions, especially being released in such a turbulent and emotional time. This has been the case across Europe, North America and now South East Asia.

The reality is, in these times relationships become more important not less. They range from those we love, to those micro interactions with colleagues, and even those in the snaking queue outside the supermarket.

Your Second Phase has been a springboard for conversations with organisations, management and with women themselves. It offers a perspective rarely discussed on a subject which is uncomfortable for many to raise. Without doubt it has been a great business development tool.

I would highly recommend the time and effort it takes to write a book. It is a real and tangible thrill to see your name in print. Should my daughters ever ask me what I did to further gender equality, ‘Your Second Phase’ will be part of my answer.

Your Second Phase: Reclaiming work and relationships during and after Menopause (Published by LID) is available to buy on Amazon.
