Pioneering Shortlist for Business Book Awards 2020 Unveiled
Judges announce the most innovative, impactful & insightful business books of the year.
Why the awards matter:
- Championing the best business books of the year – the shortlist is chosen by some of the UK’s top journalists, academics, thought-leaders and business people
- Celebrating diversity – this year the award for an Exceptional Book that Promotes Diversity celebrates books paving the way for an inclusive workforce
- 40% of entries by female authors – in the awards’ inaugural year there was huge gender imbalance in entries, but awards founder Lucy McCarraher was determined to reverse this
- Driving sustainable change – the Sustainable Change award champions books sharing innovative ways businesses can be more sustainable
- Record number of entries to the 2020 awards – this year’s awards have seen almost double the number of entries received in 2019
15th January 2020, London – the Judges of the Business Book Awards 2020 have announced the much-anticipated shortlist of the top business books published over the past year. Authors, publishers and business figures gathered at a buzzing shortlist reveal party to celebrate the incredible breadth, diversity and quality of business book publishing in the UK.
Founder of the Awards, Lucy McCarraher, opened the evening, paying tribute to the amazing entries and judging team:
“The Business Book Awards are now in their 3rd year and it was really exciting to see almost double the entries this year than last year – authors and publishers are seeing the huge potential of having their books shortlisted. We’re very much about diversity this year and we’re very proud to be able to showcase books celebrating diversity across the spectrum. Last year we introduced a special award for an exceptional book by a woman and this year we have seen the number of women entries increase from 30% to 40%. For 2020, we have introduced a special award for a book that promotes diversity and we were thrilled to see such a brilliant shortlist for this category.”
The winner of Business Book Awards 2019 Pippa Malmgrem, author of The Leadership Lab, went on to speak about the incredible impact last year’s award has had for her both personally and professionally.
Without further ado, Head Judge Alison Jones took to the stage to reveal the books that had been shortlisted for 2020.
