Laura Summers

Director & Co-founder of BookMachine

Laura is Director and Co-founder of BookMachine, a fast-growing community for publishing professionals and a creative agency specialising in digital product development, events and marketing for the book industry.

Laura started her career in-house, working at leading publishers – Pearson Education, Oxford University Press and Cengage Learning, before moving into the world of start-ups, which culminated in co-founding her own business, BookMachine, in 2010. 

BookMachine was shortlisted in the Innovation category for The Best of Royal Greenwich Business Awards 2021. The team have recently moved into Design District, London, working alongside businesses from across the creative industries. The move has been designed to foster collaboration between creative enterprises hoping to grow post-2020 and Laura is on a mission to help both BookMachine members and the wider industry to support each other and work in partnership after the effects of COVID-19.

BookMachine Creative Agency launched in 2017, as part of the BookMachine offering. It is renowned for stand out digital marketing and a highly-experienced digital product team, and Laura leads the growing team of specialists working with leading trade and education publishers globally.

Laura is a mentor for the Society of Young Publishers, and is regularly invited to talk about the book industry at publishing events.

Winners of The Business Book Awards 2022 will be revealed on Monday 16th May 2022 in London.
