Guy Clapperton

Founder & Lead Trainer at Clapperton Media Training

Guy Clapperton has been a technology and business journalist for decades. His books include “This Is Social Media”, “This Is Soclal Commerce”, “Free Publicity For Your Business In A Week” and as co-author “The Joy Of Work?” and “The Smarter Working Manifesto”. In addition he was editor of “Britain’s Top Employers” for several years.

Books had become a natural progression from his years as a journalist, starting in 1989 when he secured his first staff job on a trade publication, MicroScope, in 1989. He went freelance in 1993 and found himself covering the early years of the Internet for the national press in the UK, contributing extensively to the technology pages in The Guardian and also to the Times, Telegraph, Observer and many others. He was one of the first journalists to be paid for writing online (although the editor commissioning him might have been the actual first!).

The Guardian gave him the honorary title of “Editorial Associate” on its Small Business Solutions (later retitled Business Sense) section and he has edited a number of supplements for the New Statesman.

In 2002 he added media training to his portfolio at the request of a major PR company and that now acts as his main professional activity, leading to his accreditation in the Independent Impact 50 – the 50 most influential independent operators in the UK’s public relations industry. He is no stranger to judging and has previously been on juries for the Nectar Business Awards and briefly for Bafta.
